Areas of clinical expertise
Adult Health and Critical Care
Clinical Assistant Professor
I have been a registered nurse for 33 years. I have worked in critical care most of my nursing career. I also worked for a pediatrican for approximately five years. I was a Director of Critical Care for more than 13 years. My roles changed as the needs of the hospital changed. In addition to hospital work, I worked in Home Health for approximately five years while completing my master's degree. There is not an area of nursing that I failed to work in medical-surgical nursing. I love nursing and make every effort to stimulate that same love in my students. I love to see the light bulbs come on and their level of understanding increase. You must love students and nursing to teach in a school of nursing. My goal was always to give back to those who worked so hard that I might have the opportunity to go to school and grow. I make every attempt to do the same for my students and colleagues. Any knowledge I have or gain is for the sharing.
BS: North Carolina Central University (Durham, NC)
MSN: University of North Carolina at Greensboro (Greensboro, NC)
PhD: University of Phoenix (In progress-EDD-expected graduation 11/10)
My area of clincial practice is adult health and critical care nursing. I have been a full-time nursing educator for the past 10 years. I taught full-time in a diploma program for one year and part-time at a local community college for more than 10 years. I continued to work part-time at a local hospital until last year when working on my doctorate degree demanded more of my time. However, I continue to volunteer at Free Clinic that provides health care, dental care, and patient education to the working poor and people who are unemployed. I love volunteering because the work keeps me humble.
