Dr. Patricia Chamings was appointed the Interim Dean for the School of Nursing
effective August 14, 2007. Her educational background includes a Diploma in
Nursing, Orange Memorial Hospital of Nursing, B.S.N. and M.N. degrees,
University of Florida College of Nursing and a Ph.D. degree, George Peabody
College for Teachers of Vanderbilt University. She has a wealth of
administrative experience as dean and professor of the School of Nursing at
UNCG, assistant dean and associate professor, director and professor of the
Nurse Anesthesia Program at Bowman Gray School of Medicine and director of
a Medical-Surgical Nursing Graduate Program at Vanderbilt University.
She has also held the rank of Lt. Colonel and Colonel in the United States Air Force
Reserve, Lt. Colonel in the Tennessee Air National Guard, and Captain, in the
United States Air Force Reserve. Dr. Chamings is a fellow in the American Academy
of Nursing. Dr. Chamings has published 43 articles in refereed journals and secured several
grants. She has provided consultation to schools of nursing and hospitals.
She held leadership positions in professional organizations such as state nurses
associations, North Carolina Council of Deans, and Sigma Theta Tau International
Honor Society as well as served as a visitor for the National League of Nursing. Dr. Chamings has been involved in community service such as Moses Cone-Wesley Long Community Health Foundation, American Cancer Society, and Planned
Parenthood of the Triad Board of Directors. She has received numerous awards. Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Dr. Chamings to North Carolina
