HRSA is proud to sponsor the following outreach components at North
Carolina A&T State University.

Future Nurses Club:
The Future Nurses Club introduces female and male middle school students
to the medical career of nursing, its fundamentals, and pertinent health topics
and issues. This is accomplished through interactive components and
educational activities, exciting projects, and presentations. The Future Nurses
Club is held on the middle school's campus by North Carolina A&T State
University nursing faculty and students.

Saturday Academy:

The Saturday Academy allows middle school students between the ages of
11-14 to learn various disciplines of nursing, the responsibilities of nurses,
and the importance of the profession. This is experienced first hand by
allowing participants to come to the campus of NC A&T State University one
Saturday a month during the spring semester and participate in informative
segments. These segments include hands-on-activities, fitness classes,
group discussions, field trips, and much more. The Saturday Academy
is instructed by North Carolina A&T State University nursing students.

Summer Institute:

The Summer Institute exposes middle and high school students to the nursing
profession. This program is offered daily for a three week period on the
campus of North Carolina A&T State University. Participants receive intense
instruction regarding the nursing field, participate in simulation activities, learn
the value of good nutrition and physical fitness, and discuss various health
conditions affecting the community such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer,
and AIDS. This program allows participants to observe health professionals in
their environment by touring hospitals, medical emergency units, and health
education organizations. Participants also discuss and receive valuable
information regarding teen related topics such as self-esteem, on-line safety,
suicide, and self awareness. This is a very interactive program which is
taught by North Carolina A&T State University nursing faculty and students.

All of our outreach programs are offered at no cost to the community. If you
